چکیده

We have investigated the onset of surface optical breakdown on a polished, synthetic silica glass under KrF excimer laser irradiation. With increasing laser fluence, a transient, localized luminescence is often observed. If the fluence is increased further, the luminescence reappears and grows gradually more intense with continued exposure. Subsequent examination of damaged surfaces show small craters, about 1 mm in diameter, in the damaged region. Surfaces damaged by single laser pulses at still higher fluences show similar morphologies, suggesting that the same defects or flaws are responsible for damage under multiple pulse and single pulse conditions. # 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Design and Application of a Photoacoustic Sensor for Monitoring the Laser Generated Stress Waves in Optical Fiber

Measurement of stress transients generated by a 400ns pulsed HF laser in an infrared fluoride glass fiber has been made using fast time – response piezoelectric film transducer. Acoustic signals up to 12 mV with frequencies ranging in megahertz generated by 21 mJ laser pulse when passed through the fiber axis in the linear region. It is shown that useful information such as onset of non - linea...

Effects of KrF „248 nm... excimer laser irradiation on electrical and optical properties of GaN:Mg

The electrical and optical characteristics of GaN:Mg irradiated by a pulsed KrF ~248 nm! excimer laser have been studied. When an as-grown Mg-doped GaN film was irradiated by an excimer laser at an energy density of 590 mJ/cm in a nitrogen atmosphere, the hole concentration was drastically increased up to 4.42310 cm. Furthermore, a GaN:Mg thin film, which was treated by laser irradiation follow...

Functional Birefringent Elements Imprinted by Femtosecond Laser Nanostructuring of Multi-Component Glass

A decade ago, a new type of self-organization process was observed in the bulk of SiO2 glass after irradiation with ultrashort laser pulses [1]. Under certain irradiation conditions, highly ordered nanostructures with features smaller than 20 nm could be formed in the irradiated volume. The sub-wavelength arrangement of these structures results in form birefringence, which was recently exploite...

Investigation and control of ultrafast laser-induced isotropic and anisotropic nanoscale-modulated index patterns in bulk fused silica

Ultrafast laser-induced refractive index changes in a-SiO2 consist, depending on the irradiation conditions, of either positive variations, voids, or regular nanoscale patterns, each of these underlying specific structural transformations. These allow for obtaining a large palette of optical functions ranging from low loss guiding to anisotropic scattering. While briefly reviewing the excitatio...
